Moving to Mary Peake
Summer 2010

On the heels of last summer's move to temporary locations, this summer brought the welcome news that we could consolidate into a great, big school building: The Mary Peake Center, one of the recently closed Hampton City elementary schools. Combining our Shell Road, Lee Street and Sunset Creek sites into one was no small task! Thank goodness our staff was willing to roll up their sleeves, and the community banded around us to help!

More than 40 Bethel football players devoted a morning of
their conditioning camp for some worthy community service: helping move our children's things!

As you can see, the boys were
very shy around the camera.

"This is like one giant game of Tetris!"

The halls of our Shell Road site
become a one-way street!

with a community service award.

DHCDC Executive Director Jaynelle Oehler offers her congratulations and thanks to Athletic Director Ray Smith, Coach Dorsey Hooker and the team.

The football team raises a cheer for their exciting award.

While on break, the boys test the sturdiness
of the children's tricycles.

Service with a smile.

It was often a tight squeeze, but they got the job done!

Another TV crew! Reporter Velma Scaife and
cameraman Andrew Tawes with WVEC News Channel 13 interview the workers.

Arriving at the Mary Peake Center.

Before unloading the trucks,
the boys take a juice and cookies break.

Luckily, the coaches didn't get upset with us for
sugar-loading their prized athletes!

Unloading begins!

The players continue to work with enthusiasm and team spirit.

The trucks are emptied, down to the last hula hoop.

With our new multipurpose room becoming a
temporary storage facility, Athletic Director Ray Smith
treats the boys to a pizza lunch.
