Endowment Ice Cream Social
July 31, 2008

We all screamed for ice cream one hot July afternoon, when DHCDC hosted a memorable gathering. The ice cream social, held at our Battle Road site, was given to thank friends and investors of the Hunter B. Andrews Endowment. This endowment helps provide preschool scholarships for our children who need it most. Selfless by nature, several of our friends even insisted on helping serve! Three student greeters welcomed guests as they entered, and children from the older classes joined the party for a cherry-topped sundae.

DHCDC Board Member Henry Mills and Endowment Director Jill Keech dish out ice cream as Board Member Tiffany Franklin and her sons choose their toppings.

and chocolate sprinkles—as DHCDC Endowment Director Jill Keech makes sundaes to order.

W
hich is sweeter,
the ice cream or the girl?

As generous with the chocolate syrup as he is with his time, Board Member Henry Mills completes a sundae.

Children from one of our 4- and 5-year-old classes
sport chef hats for the occasion. And who knows better than preschoolers that, as seen at right, life is just a bowl of cherries?

Susan Daniel of Virginia Natural Gas, a company that
graciously gives to our endowment, jokes around with some
very happy preschoolers.

(a cherry on top was a must!).

conversation with Ben Goldman, friend of DHCDC whose late wife was a teacher and advocate of early childhood education.
