What's DHCDC all about?
It's about making quality child care affordable—and ultimately, creating a better community, where children start kindergarten prepared and go on to become successful, productive citizens.
We are a nonprofit preschool and child care center, and over 70% of our children come from low-income families. We're different because we offer the Peninsula's only sliding-scale tuition rate, where families pay based on income and need. We make it possible for parents to work or attend school while giving their children one of the best early childhood educations in the United States.
Our nationally accredited program (NAEYC) and degreed teachers put us in the top 7% of preschools in the country. We are also the first center in Hampton to be rated four stars by the state of Virginia. |

How much should I give?
The suggested minimum donation is $250. |
What about tax credits?

Better yet, you can receive 40% of your donation back as a tax credit according the chart below, due our status under the state's Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). Please note that to qualify for NAP credits, the total minumum donation must be made during one of these six-month windows:
January 1-June 30 or July 1-December 31.

What is a Table Captain?
Each table at our breakfast is headed by a "captain" who is responsible for filling all 10 seats. The Table Captain strives to invite people with a passion for children and improving the community, who are willing to give from their hearts. This person communicates with their guests for the months leading up to the event, sits with them during the event, and hands out and collects the pledge envelopes at the end. If you are interested in becoming a Table Captain, please fill out our volunteer form and select "Fundraising Breakfast Table Captain." If you are already a Table Captain, please visit our Table Captains Page.

Do I need my checkbook?
If that's the way you prefer to give! We offer a variety of payment options, so you can choose what's most comfortable for you.
You can give by check, cash or credit card, or set up automatic withdrawal from your bank account. You can make a pledge to be paid later in the year, a pledge for the year with an initial payment that day, a multi-year pledge, or a one-time gift that day. Your gift to the children is deeply appreciated and will make a lasting impact!

Where does my money go?

You must be on our guest list to attend. Typically, invitations are extended by a Table Captain who knows you personally (or professionally), but we're happy to host anyone who wants to make a gift to the children and learn more about our program. If you would like to attend but do not know a Table Captain, you may register as an individual or business by filling out our guest registration form. |

What if I can't come?

Who's the keynote speaker?
We are pleased to announce that none other than ACC Football Coach of the Year Mike London, from the University of Virginia, will be giving the motivational keynote speech to our guests this year.
Coach London says he's proud to support our center's mission: "Access to quality educational programs is essential for the long-term success of our children and ultimately our local communities," he said. “I guide all my players to go to class, show class and treat people with dignity and respect—and I am proud to demonstrate this in my support of DHCDC"
A Hampton native, Coach London was named the ACC’s coach of the year in November 2011—on the heels of a regular season in which he helped transform the Virginia football program into a conference title contender. |
