What is the
Hunter B. Andrews Endowment?
An endowment is a large fund established to permanently support a charitable institution. The principal of the endowment is invested, allowing it to grow over time, and the
interest is used to fund special projects. Earnings from our endowment provide tuition subsidies for at-risk and special-needs children.
Through his long and prestigious career as a school board chairman and Virginia state senator, Hunter B. Andrews championed the cause of early childhood education—well ahead of his time. The Hunter B. Andrews Endowment
honors his memory by helping our area’s most deserving children and enabling DHCDC to maintain its affordable sliding-scale tuition program.
Why should I invest?
Consider that in Virginia:
• For every dollar spent on quality early care, society can expect
up to $17 in return
• The cost for one student repeating a grade in public school
is $8,000 annually
• Every year, an estimated 50,000 students repeat a grade,
totaling $400 million
Your check or gift of stock, insurance, property or bequest will help create a strong, lasting bridge that will benefit countless children and the entire community. It’s a unique opportunity to:
• Make a real difference
• Watch your gift grow with our children
• Participate in a stable, mature organization with sound
financial management
• Enjoy a tax advantage
• Leave your legacy of caring to generations of children |
