A house for building futures
Some of the Peninsula’s most deserving children will get new funding for their programs, thanks to this “charity house” being featured in the Peninsula Housing & Builders Association’s Fall 2011 Parade of Homes.
The house, which will be part of the Buckroe Bayfront community at Buckroe Beach in Hampton, is being constructed by Ricky Edgerton of Edgerton Contracting, Inc., and a host of local sub-contractors. Proceeds from its sale will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula (BGCVP) and Downtown Hampton Child Development Center (DHCDC), which both serve children from at-risk populations.
Edgerton, an award-winning Parade of Homes builder, is a Hampton native who built his first home for himself in 1980 and realized his dream of building full-time in 1994. As a Boys & Girls Club alumnus, he appreciates the importance of youth development programs to the community.
“I know how important it was for me to have a safe place to go to where I could learn, grow and make new friends,” he said. “I learned lessons which have been critical in my success as an adult. I hope through this project will create that same opportunity for other youth.” |
